“Without well written instructions a computer is nothing more than a big ol’ box of rocks” – Dr. Maurice Eggen, Professor at Trinity University
Dr. Eggen was articulating to our class that computers only do one thing, follow directions. A computer will do it’s best to follow any directions it can understand, no matter how poorly written or thought out. He followed this up with a challenge to always think about what our programs were asking the computer to do. When we formed a software company as part of a class project my group decided to use Dr. Eggen’s sage advice as the inspiration for our company name. Since the idea to use Dr. Eggen’s quote was mine, I decided to relocate the company from the hypothetical academic world into the real one.
I am the full time iPhone and PHP developer for Sweb Development as well as the Project Manager for SwebApps. As a freelancer I’m willing to take any opportunity to learn about new technologies based on client needs. At the moment I am working on mastering WordPress development (themes and plugins) and graphic design.
My philosophy is that computers are most valuable when solving problems, not when doing fancy tricks for the sake of saying something can be done. I approach solutions from a “should we” not a “could we” angle. When designing software my main focus is delivering a product which solves your problem. Maybe your problem requires a creative solution, maybe it requires something very simple, yet functional. I’ll strive to deliver the solution which is best for you.
By following this strategy we’ll make computers more than just a “box o’ rox”.
